MALLOY QUARTERLY

Winter/Spring 2011, Volume 21, Number 1

Malloy Now Makes eBooks, Too!

This spring we were pleased to introduce our eBook Conversion and Distribution service; the newest component of our Title Support Services. We make it easy for you to “make” an eBook and deliver it to any of the top eBook retailers.
Getting your books into the eBook market couldn’t be simpler. If you have sales agreements with your retailer(s) of choice (listed below), all you have to do is submit one conversion order per title to Malloy. No repetitious entry of metadata or keeping track of different retailer delivery requirements—we manage all of that for you.

  • Amazon/Kindle
  • Apple/iBookstore
  • Barnes & Noble.com
  • Kobo
  • Sony Reader Bookstore

Here is a quick overview of the process:

Steps for the PUBLISHER:

Click on the Make an eBook tab in myMalloy (www.myMalloy.com) and fill out the order form. Key elements of the form:
• Select a book to be converted from a list of titles previously printed or currently being printed at Malloy
• Select the desired eBook format — ePub, Mobipocket, and Universal PDF
• Designate the retailer(s) to which you want your eBook delivered to — Apple, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders/Kobo, Sony, or “Return to Publisher”
• Enter the metadata—the information about your eBook used by retailers. Note: You can skip this section if you are choosing not to have Malloy send
your eBook file to any of the retailers.
Once you’ve completed the order form, you will have an opportunity to review your entries and modify your submission. When everything looks right to you, the order is submitted.

Steps for MALLOY:

Upon receiving your order, Malloy locates your print files, combines those files with the metadata, and sends everything to our conversion partner. The conversion process takes approximately 10 business days. If you ask Malloy to distribute files to more than one retailer, a separate file is automatically optimized for each retailer during the conversion process.
Once the conversion process is complete, Malloy will notify you by email that your eBook files are available. The email will include a direct link to a secure location in myMalloy where you can access your eBook files. The online location for downloading files is available only to people with access to your information in myMalloy.
If you have requested that we distribute your eBooks to retailers, Malloy will transmit the converted files and the relevant metadata to the retailer(s). The distribution process takes approximately two business days.

The PUBLISHER can:

Download copies of all converted files right away. You can distribute the files to retailers if they have established sales agreements and if Malloy has not
already performed that step for them. You can also place the files on your own website for sale or distribution.
